Statistic Investigation and a Novel Design Technique for Improving the Accuracy of the Resistor Strings

A. Amini (Urumi Graduate Inst., Iran)

The most important issue in design of resistor strings, is the mismatch between resistor values, which can lead to random and gradient errors, and nonlinearities in analog to digital and digital to analog converters. Therefore, in this paper, several origins of random and gradient errors in conventional single resistor strings that limited the accuracy of them, are discussed and a new design technique and statistical investigation results are employed to effectively enhance the intrinsic accuracy of the resistor strings. HSPICE and MATLAB simulation results agree well with the proposed structure improves the accuracy of the resistor strings for about 2 bits. Hence, the presented technique provides more precise reference voltages required in high resolution applications such as the image sensors and the analog to digital converters.
