The Evolution of Analog and MEMs – New Market Trends and Challenges (invited paper)

In this speech, STMicroelectronics is going to explore the current challenges in the Analog and MEMs scenario and the evolution in the past years. MEMs technology has, indeed, changed a lot: as leader in the market, we have experienced the different requests from the first accelerometers in the gaming world, adopted few years ago, to the smartphones, that today represent the market with the highest volumes. Still, we are far from being able to say that all applications and all MEMS have been identified, and we will touch some new ideas during the invited talk. Complementarity, the Analog world is keeping giving new opportunities for the introduction of innovative market applications, where the big world of IoT is the main marketplace. STMicroelectronics presentation will cover extensively the new challenges in Analog. Finally, we will give also an introduction of micro-actuators: this technology is going to complete the overall concept of miniaturization, started from analog, evolved with MEMs and now brought to reality with micro-actuators.
