The growing migration to Ethernet-based standards in industrial networks, driven by the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0, has challenged automation sectors to ensure efficient and secure communication in harsh environments. The Ethernet- APL (Advanced Physical Layer) standard emerges as a promising solution, especially for hazardous areas. This paper introduces Ethernet-APL and presents a case study on the Ethernet-APL standard, discussing its characteristics, advantages, and a practical application for temperature monitoring in an industrial network.
